********************************************************************************                                    M U G                                    ********************************************************************************                                                                                                                                                                     MUG is an adventure game, and is a single-user version of the Multi-UserGames that you need a telephone and a modem to play.                                  Set in a world perilously close to the End of Time, the Game gives you achance to wreak your vengeance on sundry demons, to collect treasure,  to solveintriguing puzzles, investigate mazes, and even to talk to the other characterswho will appear from time to time, some nice, some nasty.                                                                                                            Your aim will be to acquire points,  and skills sufficient to enable youto kill the demons of Eastway and to find that passport which is your ticket tothe Next World.                                                                                                                                                      You interact with the Game by typing in commands.   Each command must beregistered by pressing the Return/Enter key.   Commands can be input singly, orin strings.  For help in this matter, you can type HELP at any time.   Commandsmay be input in upper- or lower-case.                                                                                                                         Please press N for the Next page...                                            **************************************************************************************************************************************************************When the Game has loaded (and following a brief introduction from Mug himself),you will be confronted by five options;  to play the Game, read this Text, edityour function-keys, delete a current player, or exit from MUG.   There is spacefor seven players, who will, at first, be nameless.  It is up to you to providenames for the players, which can be as silly or as witty as you like.          To give your players names -                                                             Enter the Game (option A of the Introductory Menu)                             Type a player's number, 1-7.  This player will then load.                      Type SAVE.                                                                     Save your player as a New player.                                              You will be asked to provide a name.                                 A player can be deleted only at the Introductory Menu.                                                                                                        You can SAVE your current position in the Game at any time, except when you arein the process of solving certain puzzles.  Also, if you have had enough of thecurrent player, you can LOAD another -  whereupon you will be asked if you wishto Save the current player.                                                                                                                                   To exit from the Game, the command is QUIT.                                                                                                                   Please press N for the Next page, or P for the Previous page...                **************************************************************************************************************************************************************The Game is on the whole a text adventure, and - compared with the many graphicadventures currently available - is rather like Radio compared with TV.  If youhave not played this kind of adventure before,  then it may take a while beforeyou begin to see the pictures in your mind rather than on the screen.   This isquite normal.  If you are totally new to this kind of thing, then I should giveyou a list of the commands that are well-known to experienced Adventurers:                                                                                    BREAK, BUY, CRY, CUDDLE, DISEMBARK, DROP, EMBARK, EXAMINE (abbreviation - EX)  FLEE, GET (abbr. G)                                                            GIVE, HELP, I (for Inventory - a list of what you are carrying)                KILL (abbr. K), KISS, LAUGH, LOAD, LOOK (abbr. L - when reviewing a location)  OFFER, OPEN, PUT, QUIT, READ, RUB, RUN (abbr. R), SAVE, SCORE (abbr. SC)       SELL, SLEEP, STEAL, SWIM, TAKE (abbr. T), THROW, TURN                          UNWATCH, VALUE, WATCH, WEIGH, WHERE (abbr. WH)                                                                                                                Less usual is SILENCE, which will keep the Game's characters quiet.   Repeatingthis command will restore their voices.   Also, WHO will give you a list of theGame's characters still alive, and FOOD will give you the current menu of food.Other commands, notably those for Movement, are listed in the HELP section.                                                                                   Please press N for the next page, or P for the Previous page...                **************************************************************************************************************************************************************These commands are transitive or intransitive,  i.e. they can apply to objects,or they can be used on their own.  Here are some examples of simple verb-objectconstructs:                                                                    GET SABRE                                                                      SWIM RIVER                                                                     OPEN DOOR                                                                      THROW THE ROPE OVER THE GIBBET, AND LOOK UNDER THE COT                         and so on.  You will notice that you can use prepositions, such as IN, OUT, ON,OVER, UNDER, etc.   Commands such as FLEE, LAUGH, and SLEEP refer to no object.Again, I recommend you study the HELP section.                                                                                                                By skilful manipulation of these commands, by some thought, and some good luck,you should eventually acquire that Skill which will enable you to progress fromMug's world to the Next.   Obviously, I can't reveal to you the secrets of thisNext World:  I can say only that therein lies the Academy of Pumcoddle, creatorof Mug's world, and that entry into it will give you Untold Power.                                                                                            So, turn down the lights, put something soothing on the hi-fi, and kick the catout.  You are about to enter a world where Magic rules.                                                                                                       Please press N to return to MUG, or P for the previous page...                 *******************************************************************************
